I hate shared hosting restrictions ! But with that said you do not have a choice if you are working with an existing client sometimes . Had some major problems with memory restrictions put in effect by the hosting company - You need 16mb available for your Drupal 6 to work - don't bother with anything less or you will have a head ache for a day or two !
